What Past Sophomore All-Americans Can Tell Us About Ollie Gordon’s Future At Oklahoma State
Fact Checked by Nate Hamilton

Few running backs across the college football landscape broke through the nation’s collective conscience quite like Oklahoma State sophomore Ollie Gordon did this fall. The Fort Worth native was electric all year for the 9-4 Cowboys, with 1,614 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground this year, to go with 6.3 yards per carry for the former three-star recruit in the class of 2022.

Now that Gordon has earned a spot on the 2023 Associated Press All-America Team for this year’s college football season, he will certainly be a candidate for the Heisman Trophy next year (whether he returns to Oklahoma State or not).

BetOklahoma.com is looking ahead to possible Oklahoma sports betting decisions and decided to look at how sophomores perform the next season after making an AP All-America Team on the offensive side of the ball. The research was done from the 2018 AP All-America Team until now. There have been 14 sophomores who have been named to the AP All-America Team over that span.

How Do AP All-American Sophomores Do The Next Year?

Below is some great information that could benefit those participating in Oklahoma betting apps in the future. Here is how All-American sophomores perform the following year.

What Does Future Hold For Gordon & The Cowboys?

Of the 14 sophomore running backs that have made the AP All-American list as sophomores, five went on to make subsequent lists, with the same number being named finalists for the Heisman Trophy. School-wise, Gordon’s 1,614 rushing yards rank as the ninth most in a single season in Oklahoma State history, behind Pro Football Hall of Famer Barry Sanders in 1988 (2,850 yards), Chuba Hubbard in 2019 (2,094), Terry Miller in 1976 (1,887), Ernest Anderson in 1982 (1,877), Thurmond Thomas in 1987 (1,767) and 1985 (1,650) and Terry Miller in 1977 (1,680).

His 22 career touchdowns are just outside the OK State top 10, with Bob Fenimore (28 touchdowns between 1943 and 1946) being the next closest member of the list to the sophomore out of Texas. Gordon and the Cowboys are likely focused on reaching the program’s first CFP in 2024, which would be a first for any of the 14 sophomore backs to make the AP All-American team over the years. That road begins next fall, when the Cowboys play South Dakota State, Arkansas, and Tulsa in the non-conference portion of the season, between Aug. 31 and Sept. 14.
