What Can OSU, OU Do In the Big 12 Baseball Tournament?
Fact Checked by Michael Peters

Oklahoma State just proved what it could do in the Bedlam Series by winning two of three games against rival Oklahoma in the final Big 12 series this past weekend. Both wins were blowouts by scores of 13-2 and 11-1.

Now, the 18th-ranked Cowboys look for one more victory over the struggling Sooners as they square off in the Big 12 Tournament on Wednesday at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. They will play at 4 p.m.

There is no legal Oklahoma sports betting on Sooners or Cowboys baseball or any other sport in the state. Legislation proposed during the 2022 session failed to advance.

As the teams prepare for the Big 12 Tournament, OU could really use a marquee victory to make sure it lands a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The current field of 64 projections by d1baseball.com lists the Sooners as one of the last four teams to make the tournament and they’re the third team on that list.

OSU Projected as Regional Host

The Cowboys are predicted to host the Stillwater Regional and face No. 4 seed and in-state foe Oral Roberts, while No. 2 seed Oregon State would meet No. 3 seed Grand Canyon in the projections.

The Sooners, who reached the championship series at the College World Series last year before losing to Ole Miss, haven’t been as strong this season. OU enters the Big 12 Tournament with an overall record of 30-24 and just 11-13 in conference play. It did have series wins over Texas, TCU and Kansas, but never put together a solid stretch of games against Big 12 teams.

The Cowboys finished the year 37-16 overall with a 15-9 Big 12 record, including winning their three final conference series over Kansas, Kansas State and OU. It should be noted that ORU took down the Cowboys 9-7 in a Tuesday showdown May 2.

Although there are no Oklahoma betting apps, national operators list OSU with the second-best odds of winning the Big 12 Tournament at +275. Texas is favored at +225.

OSU Has Plenty of Power

OSU has been led this season by three big hitters in Roc Riggio (.354, 17 HRs, 56 RBIs), Nolan Schubart (.348, 15 HRs, 66 RBIs) and David Mendham (.298, 13 HRs, 55 RBIs).

Tyler Wulfert is sixth in the Big 12 with a .361 batting average. On the mound, reliever Isaac Stebens has been dynamite with 74 strikeouts in 55.1 innings with a 4-1 record, six saves and a 2.44 ERA in 25 appearances.

OU only has one player with at least 10 homers in Bryce Madron (.310, 11 HRs), and it only has four hitters hitting at least .300. Kendall Pettis leads the way with a .342 average.

The winner of the Bedlam conference tournament game will play the winner of West Virginia and Texas Tech in the late game on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., while the losers of those games will meet at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The Big 12 championship game will be on Sunday at 5 p.m. on ESPNU.

When sports betting does become legal in the state, BetOklahoma.com will be your source for Oklahoma sportsbook promos.
