It was a weekend to forget for fans of Oklahoma State, which went from the high of knocking off Arizona State on the road in Week 2 to the historic low that comes from a 26-point home beatdown at the hands of South Alabama.
The Cowboys’ 33-7 Stillwater against the Jaguars was among the largest a member of a “Power Five” conference has suffered to a “Group of Five” school since 2019 — OSU’s first loss to such a program since its controversial last-second loss to Central Michigan in 2016. To get a sense of where the Cowboys’ latest loss ranks historically, BetOklahoma.com broke down the largest margins of victory for Group of Five teams over their Power Five competitors in the last five years.
Unfortunately for state college football fans, there is no legal Oklahoma sports betting.
Biggest G5 Wins over Power 5 Since 2019
Although there are no Oklahoma betting apps, national operators list Texas as the favorite to win the Big 12 at -125 odds. OSU has slipped to +10000 odds, ranking it 11th in the conference.
Loss Puts OSU in Bad Company
Oklahoma State’s 26-point defeat to the Jaguars ranks as the fourth-largest margin of victory for a G5 program over a P5 school since 2019 — trailing Boston College’s 38-6 loss against Cincinnati in 2019, Arizona State’s 29-0 loss to Fresno State on Saturday and Kansas’ 49-22 defeat at the hands of Coastal Carolina in 2021.
Other Big 12 teams to make the cut include Baylor’s 30-15 defeat against Air Force in 2022, Kansas’ 38-23 loss to the Chanticleers in 2020 and the Bears’ 42-31 loss against Texas State in Week 1 of the 2023 CFB season. For Cowboys fans, the only thing they can do is turn the page on the season and look forward to the team’s Big 12 opener against Iowa State at 3 p.m. Saturday in Ames.
It’s a road showdown where the Cowboys are listed as 3.5-point underdogs with an over/under of 36.5 points by Caesars Sportsbook — there is no Caesars Oklahoma.
