The Sooner State is known for many things, from its love of college sports to the diverse scenery that can be found from the western panhandle east toward Arkansas and Missouri.
The one thing residents of Oklahoma aren’t as good at, evidently, is showing thanks, as the state ranks as one of the least thankful states in the country.
BetOklahoma.com took a break from covering Oklahoma sports betting issues to look at which states are the most thankful.
While it is hard to objectively decipher thankfulness, we found two key statistics in order to help us with our research.
BetOklahoma.com utilized two combined data points to develop the ranking of the 50 United States from most to least thankful. We utilized Toast’s data showing the state ranking of highest average tip percentage to restaurants during 2022 and Google Trend’s search interest of “Thank You Notes” over the past 12 months.
Here’s where Oklahoma ranks nationally by both metrics, compared to others across the United States.

Oklahoma Among Least Thankful States In America
Few states in the U.S. find themselves in as unenviable a spot as Oklahoma when it comes to two key metrics of kindness — thank you note search rankings and average tip ranking.
In Oklahoma, the state ranked 40th nationally by the first metric and 37th by the second, netting them an average of 38.5.
That figure puts the Sooner State 44th nationally, sandwiched between No. 43 Arizona (38) and two states that tied at No. 46 (Florida and Utah, at 39).
Nationally, Nevada finished as the least thankful state in America, with an average ranking of 47, while New Mexico, Washington, California, Utah and Florida rounded out the top 5.
In the months ahead, Oklahomans can work on their manners by tipping employees more and writing a few more thank you notes, so the state can climb our list by this time next year.
