Oklahomans Search for Chevy More Than Any Other Car

Fact Checked by Michael Peters

When searching for a new vehicle, consumers have multiple choices as it relates to style, engine performance, gas mileage and brands. But which vehicle is the most popular in each state?

BetOklahoma.com took a break from covering sports betting in Oklahoma and utilized CarLogos.org’s list of the Top 50 most popular car brands in the United States as a starting point for the research. We then utilized Google Trends to search each car brand to see the highest level of interest of each state for the brand.

After completing the trends from July 25, 2022, to July 25, 2023 we were able to average out the results to get the top car brand for each state.

  • Honda (7 states): Alaska, Delaware, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina

Oklahoma Seeks Out Chevy Vehicles

When looking up the most popular vehicles in Oklahoma, sales data for new and used cars says the Ford F-150 is No. 1, but according to the Google Trends research, car buyers in Oklahoma are looking at Chevrolet vehicles more and more.

So Google’s car information would be a bit of an upset if there were Oklahoma betting apps and they took wagers on such things.

Chevy ranks No. 3 on the CarLogos.com list of most popular car brands behind Toyota and Ford. According to carsalesbase.com, Chevy sold 1,435,205 vehicles in the United States in 2021, which was a 17.74% decrease over 2020, and down from 2,125,347 in 2015. Overall, Chevy’s market share has dropped from a high of 16.25% in 2004 to 9.52% in 2021.

In 2022, Oklahoma ranked 12th nationally in new car sales with 383,299, according to factorywarrantylist.com. California is No. 1 with 1,667,831 new car sales.

When looking at 2022 used car sales in Oklahoma, data from iSeeCars.com shows the Ford F-150 has the biggest share of sales followed by the Chevy Silverado 1500, Ram 1500, Chevy Equinox and the Nissan Rogue. So that’s two different Chevy models in the top five for 5.7% of the market share. The Ford F-150 accounts for 4.3%.

The Google Trends data shows Oklahoma car buyers searching for Chevy vehicles, and it seems searching has led to choosing the brand over the love for Fords in some instances.
